Definition of  Basic Social Science (ISD)
Basic social science is the science that examines issues - social issues that arise and thrive, especially those embodied by the citizens of Indonesia by using terms (facts, concepts, theories) that come from different fields of expertise knowledge in the field of social sciences.

Definition of Basic Social Science (ISD) in College
Basic social science is one of soft skill subject which is required subject  in College. This subject focuses to develop the personality of the students, especially in the social field. Different with the other subjects are aimed at improving skills in the discipline.
Three Types of abilities:
1. Personal Ability (personal capacity)
It can demonstrate the attitude and the personality of Indonesia, knowing and understanding the values ​​of religious, community, state and broad view of society.
2. Academic Ability
The ability to communicate scientifically, both orally and in writing, mastering equipment analysis, logical thinking, critical, systematic, analytical.
3. Professional Ability
The ability in the field of professional expertise is concerned. Experts are expected to have a high knowledge.

Basic Social Science (ISD) Scope:
Basic Social Science (ISD) material consists of social problems, so ISD subjects can be divided into three groups:
1.      Social realities that exist in communities that together constitute a particular social problem. Because of differences in disciplinary backgrounds or its point of view.
2.      Concepts / understanding of social reality is limited to the basic concepts needed to study the social problems that are understood in the social science.
3.      Social problems that arise in society are usually involved in various social realities between.

Objectives of ISD:
1. Foster insight into the thinking and personality extensive, and can consult with one another.
2. Understand and realize the social realities and problems that exist in society.
3. Sensitive to social issues and responsive to participate in efforts to eradicate.
 4. Realizing that any social problems arising in society are always complex and simply approached and studying it critically and interdisciplinary.

Science are Grouped into Three Major Groups:
1. Natural sciences (natural science): natural sciences aims to find regularities contained in the universe. For this study used the scientific method. The way is to determine the applicable law regarding that order, then made ​​an analysis to determine quality. The results of this analysis is then generalized. On this basis and then made ​​predictions. The results 100 5 true and 100 5 false.
2. Social sciences (social science): the social sciences aim to assess the order contained in the relationship between human beings. For this study used the scientific method as a loan from the natural sciences. But the research results are not 100 5 true, just closer to the truth. The reason is order in the relationship between human beings can not be changed from moment to moment.
3. Cultural knowledge (the humanities): aim to understand and find the meaning of the realities of human nature. To assess this method of disclosure used the events and realities that are unique, then given a meaning.
Basic social science is not a combination of basic social science combined, because the basic social science does not has an object and the scientific method itself and also it does not develop a research as a discipline.
Basic social science is a subject of study or employment programs specifically designed for the benefit or workmanship in Indonesia are given in college.

History of  Basic Social Science (ISD)
Historical knowledge includes knowledge of the events that have past and the knowledge of how to think historically. People who specialize or historians studying the history of the so-called historians.
In the past, learning about history is categorized as part of the culture of science (humanities). However, history is now more often categorized into the social sciences, especially when it comes Tracking history in chronological order. Science of studying the history of events related to humanity in the past. Science of history can be divided into chronology, historiography, genealogy, paleography, and kliometrik.
Form of development of social science in Indonesia after getting independence are:

Below Basic Materials Social Sciences (ISD) Subjects Can be Divided Into Three Groups:
• The fact-existing social reality in society, which together constitute a particular social problem.

• Diversity and contradictory concepts of social unity of the two concepts mentioned above, then we could understand, and we realize that in society there is always:

Social problems which arise within society are usually involved in a variety of social realities related. The consortium inter-field has been determined that social science foundation course consists of 8 subjects, namely:
1. A variety of population problems in relation to the development of society and culture
2. Problems Individuals, families, and communities
3. The problem of youth and socialization
4. Problem of the relationship between citizens and the State
5. Coating problems of social and equality
6. Problem of urban and rural society
7. The problem of social conflicts and integration
8. Utilization of science and technology for prosperity and welfare of the community.

Basic Social Sciences and Social Sciences
Basic social science (ISD) and the social sciences have similarities and differences as for the similarities between both of them:
Both are study materials for the benefit of education programs / teaching
Both are not a stand-alone discipline science
Both have a material consisting of social reality and social problems.
